RA 100 MERCURY

Building an Aircraft by Pilots, for Pilots.
A Journey of Innovation, Passion, and Collaboration

About us & RA 100 Mercury

My aviation journey and, consequently, the story of RA 100 Mercury began in 1996 when I married my wife Kateřina. Her brother, father and even her grandfather were all pilots. Ever since I was little, I had a passion for everything that had an engine and could move, so it didn't take long until I got inspired to take up flying as well.
- Vladimír Hofman

I've met many amazing people on my way to gain flight experience and qualifications, some of which would later become my friends. A couple of us – test pilots, flight instructors, experienced aviators and all kinds of flight enthusiasts – banded together to make our shared dream come true — to build our own airplane. An airplane with flight characteristics that we all sought after. An airplane that screams it was built by pilots.

We leveraged the new MTOW specifications to the fullest and designed our airplane to be exceptional not only in its flight characteristics but also in its dimensions, wing-span and fuel capacity (and hence its range), just to name a few.
As of now, we have the first couple of prototypes flying around in Czechia and we also began the certification process. It's a long journey, but we believe the result will be worth it!

An opportunity to fly a completely new type of aircraft doesn't come around too often, and I'm really glad I got one yesterday! Vladimír Hofman, the founder of Race Aircraft, gave me a ride in the second flying RA100 Mercury. You can tell it was designed for 600 kg MTOW specifically. This isn't just a tiny UL on steroids – the flight characteristics and the spacious cabin feel closer to a certified aircraft than most ULs. Three more planes are in production, and I was promised I could take one for a longer flight, so I'll definitely be back with more when it happens.

In aviation we have a saying: "A plane that looks nice flies nice." And let me tell you, this beauty confirms it for sure. It flies effortlessly, and the flight characteristics remind me a lot of my favorite aircraft, the legendary L200 Morava. It has that same solid, full-sized airplane feel, but in a much more compact package. The cabin is spacious, boarding is a breeze – partly thanks to controls wheel which is not something you see very often in ultralights. It really stands out in its class, and I can honestly say it's one of the most enjoyable ULs I've flown. The photos speak for themselves — this is an exceptional aircraft, plain and simple.

In my career, I had a chance to fly more than 100 different types of airplanes. When I got the opportunity to try RA100 as well, I didn't hesitate. On the first glance it's a beautiful, spacious plane. Even though it was the first manufactured unit, the excellent craftsmanship was apparent. The plane flies the same way it looks — pleasant and natural. Its shape, technologies and equipment all make it a timeless aircraft.
